Final Justin Update

On July 4th, 2008 Justin De Bree paddled the last leg of his nearly 400 mile journey right up to a big celebration in St. Mary's Georgia. For his last mile he was accompanied by three police boats with lights flashing. As he approached the dock filled with family, friends and well wishers, the theme to Hawaii 5-0 was heard blasting throughout the entire downtown and harbour from the stage. St. Mary's, Georgia was welcoming their new hero.

After Justin got out of the water, gave hugs and had a couple quick interviews, he was off. For the last time, he hoisted his waterlogged board on top of his head and headed right down mainstreet to address the audience from the stage.

Besides promoting our beach signage, raising awareness and a little bit of funds, there was something obvious that supports the feelings of the World Skin Cancer Foundation. Justin's normally dark tan was gone. After two weeks of being on the water, Justin had no evidence of any sun exposure. By using the Slip, Slap, Slop rules, Justin was able to enjoy the outdoors safer than usual. We don't want to scare people from using the outdoors. We just want people to be smart when they use them.

Standing up Against Skin Cancer

 

On the morning of June 19th, 2008, Cocoa Beach resident Justin DeBree will embark on a challenging 18 day journey from Key Biscayne, FL up the East Coast to St. Mary's, Georgia.   The expedition's goal is to raise money and awareness while promoting the World Skin Cancer Foundation's mission.  The grueling 398 mile long journey will be done entirely on a stand up paddle board.

Justin is 27 years old and is a Territory Manager for DeWALT Industrial Power Tools & a volunteer for the World Skin Cancer Foundation.  Justin has been stand up paddle boarding every day for the past year in preparation for this journey and is eagerly awaiting this challenge. 

This year, instead of surf & fishing trips like he has done in past during his vacation time, he is donating his entire time off for this event.  

Justin’s Dedications

Everyday Justin is paddling he will be dedicating the day to someone directly affected by Skin Cancer. He will place a picture on his board, and paddle his heart out for that affected person and their family.
