A Message from Dr. Stein
Sunscreen and sunblock products have gotten some bad press lately. Remember that these substances are ONE ASPECT of sun wise living. They should be used in conjunction with avoidance of peak sun hours (10 AM-2 PM), moderation of time in the sun, and other methods of sun protection. Sun protective clothing, from standard rash guards and long sleeved swim shirts to clothing with sun protection incorporated in the material fibers, are attractive alternatives to chemical based protective substances. Hats are also a must. Remember that many of the critics of sun protective lotions cite claims that are unsubstantiated and untrue. On the other hand, the fact that unprotected sun exposure leads to skin cancer is universally accepted.
